Coming into the organization, new, this year, what does Dress for Success mean to you?
Dress for Success means a new start. Coming into the organization with little exposure to Dress for Success previously, I've learned that for many women, these services mean the difference between attending an interview or not. It could be the ticket that helps that job seeker land the job they're pursuing by not only providing them the physical tools (clothing) they need to make a good impression, but by also lifting their confidence and giving them a boost of courage. The tools they learn during workshops or during a career guidance session could be what helps them move forward in the position after the clothes helped them conquer the interview. There are more beneficial tools that come from Dress for Success Winnipeg than many people realize.
What are some future hopes and goals that you have for Dress for Success Winnipeg?
My hope for Dress for Success Winnipeg is just that we can grow and expand our services to reach every corner of Winnipeg. I would also love the opportunity to expand beyond our city limits and bring our offerings to rural communities. There is no doubt that these services are needed but we have yet to reach these folks.
What advice would you give to aspiring women* leaders who are passionate about making a difference in their communities?
Don't let speedbumps stop you. They may slow you down, but overcome the hurdle and move forward. Women are so capable. Capable of motivation, encouragement, leadership, mentorship and so much more. Being a woman, although great advances have been made over recent years, can still be challenging when you arrive at a table surrounded by men - but know your voice, stand your ground and know what you have to offer. Find your community and they will always have your back.
