What has been the most beneficial part of becoming a Dress for Success Affiliate?
I think one of the most beneficial aspects of becoming a Dress For Success affiliate was the incredible network. There is increased visibility in Winnipeg, access to national and international funding and the support of other affiliates. You don't feel like you have to reinvent the wheel. You can learn from others who have had similar situations. The first year Trish and I attended the Dress For Success convention in Vancouver. There were many training sessions, ideas and many people to meet. It was an amazing experience. We brought back ideas to implement in Winnipeg.
Are you proud of what the program has turned into and achieved?
Making the decision to become a Dress For Success affiliate was a difficult decision for the Board. We spent much time debating the pros and cons of the decision. Looking back with 20/20 hindsight, I wonder why we agonized over this decision. It was the right decision, and the program previously called the Clothes Closet has flourished as a Dress For Success affiliate. It gave the program a chance to grow to what it is today and provide for future growth. I am very proud we, as a board agreed to join Dress For Success.
What are some future hopes and goals that you have for Dress for Success Winnipeg?
There are many dreams for Dress For Success, but what makes it flourish in Winnipeg is being part of South Winnipeg Family Information Centre (SWFIC). It is one part of assisting families (of all types). I would love to see a larger location for SWFIC and more programming to support women on their career journey.
